Alex Rodriguez got his spring training off to a good start on Thursday, launching a bomb over the wall.

While the New York Yankees opened up their 2016 spring season on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers, the biggest name on the roster was not on the field in Alex Rodriguez. However, he was out there with the team on Thursday when they took on the Philadelphia Phillies, and he got things started with a bang.

All it took for A-Rod to make his presence felt was two pitches, as on the second toss that he saw he launched the ball over the left field wall for the Yankees.

You can watch the homer below.

Now that’s a good sign for the Yankees. What wasn’t a good sign, however, was the fact that they would ultimately go on to lose the game by a score of 13-4, but this is just the spring season after all, so there’s no need to panic about that. But there is reason for the team and the fans to get excited about their veteran star flashing off the power already.

Last season returning from suspension, Rodriguez playing at such a high level for his age was an integral part of why they were able to sniff the postseason. Looking at the lineup, they’ll need another solid year from him again.
