Anthony Davis looked like a point guard dribbling up the floor against the Spurs right until he threw a pass

Though he and the New Orleans Pelicans had their share of struggles at the start of the season, Anthony Davis should never be considered anything other than absolutely incredible. Players with his size and length aren’t supposed to possess the amount of skill that he does at such a young age. However, he showed off a combination of his skill and youth on Thursday night against the Spurs all over the course of just a few seconds.

Midway through the first quarter of Spurs-Pelicans, Davis (inexplicably) got the outlet pass from Kendrick Perkins and proceeded to just put his head down and take the ball up the floor. Remarkably, he was dicing up the Spurs defense in doing so, even unleashing a spin just before midcourt to get by Patty Mills. However, it was when he tried to dish it out to Eric Gordon that his brief stint as a point forward came to a screeching halt with a truly terrible pass:

That wasn’t even remotely close other than the fact that he passed to his right and Gordon happened to be on his right.

While Anthony Davis might end up on Shaqtin a Fool for this sequence, no one is going to question what the New Orleans big man is capable. And to be fair, 90 percent of the league’s big men would’ve lost the rock trying to make that play after about the second dribble. If Davis can get that pass down, he might actually have a future in this league.
