Bill Walton gloriously got way too into the Cal Golden Bears in the broadcast booth as he growled on-air

Bill Walton is quite possibly the strangest public figure on the planet and by far the strangest person that gets behind a live microphone at least a couple of times per week, but he’s also just absolutely glorious in his unabashed weirdness.

The former UCLA Bruins and NBA star has no problem letting you know how much he loves being in China, telling his colleague and broadcast partner Dave Pasch how to properly rub Temecula dirt on yourself, and showing zero chill about his exploits in college on sorority row. Apparently he also has no problem making animal noises while on the air, as well.

In the booth for the matchup between the Cal Golden Bears and Arizona Wildcats on Thursday night, Walton watched Cal sophomore Kameron Rooks notch a big block for the Golden Bears, so Bill Walton did like only he can and proceeded to let loose a primal growl in celebration of the great defensive play:

If this wasn’t Bill Walton growling on national TV (obviously the best part of this), then Pasch being confused and asking if his partner just growled at him would be at the top of the list of great things from this call. However, trying to top the weirdness of Walton is a futile plight.

Quite literally nothing is better in the world than Bill Walton calling a college basketball game. Even better is that the hippie-hearted wonder of the ESPN broadcast booth and Grateful Dead shows seems to be getting so close to nature now that he’s beginning to speak the language of the animals.

Bless Bill Walton and let him always have a microphone.
