NBA Rumors: 5 free agency destinations for Dwyane Wade
By John Buhler
Even though ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes that there is a chance that LeBron James may leave the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer in free agency, would the Akron native be more enticed to stay in Cleveland if the Cavaliers front office can bring in his favorite former teammate in Dwyane Wade in free agency?
Though Wade does feel like a player that could spend his entire career with his current team in the Miami Heat, people did feel the same way about Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, and Paul Pierce, who all left their longtime teams for another club in the twilight of their NBA careers.
Wade could bring both veteran leadership and backcourt stability as a great high IQ basketball player to Cleveland. His arrival with the Cavaliers would probably mean that either point guard Kyrie Irving or power forward Kevin Love would have to leave the team for salary cap purposes. J.R. Smith would also have to come off the bench in a sixth man role should Wade rejoin James in Cleveland.
If James is dead set on winning an NBA Championship for his hometown Cavaliers, why wouldn’t he try to convince a former teammate that has won two titles with him and another on his own in Miami in Wade? It’s a long shot for a Wade/James reunion in Cleveland, but when has that stopped James before in trying to assemble a championship caliber roster around him annually?
