16.
This is a risky pick in every way. Nkemdiche is a mega-talent that occasionally displays that type of play on the field, but he looks to be something of a question mark (to put it very lightly) off the field. In addition, Nkemdiche did not always show the greatest motor and/or effort level while at Ole Miss, and he must be able to play more consistently at the NFL level.

On the bright side, he is very, very good when he plays like he is capable of playing. Also, Rex Ryan has displayed the ability and willingness to look past some previous character concerns in favor of on-field talent.

Buffalo could use a complement to Marcell Dareus (the team’s best defensive player) along the defensive line, and only Sheldon Rankins can compare to Robert Nkemdiche among the players available in this spot. I prefer Nkemdiche’s raw ability, and moving a troubled player off the beaten path to Buffalo has proven effective on a few occasions previously.

Nkemdiche put together an incredible athletic performance at the combine, weighing in at nearly 300 pounds while running a sub-5.0 40-yard dash and jumping more than 35 inches in the vertical. That may inspire a team before the Bills on the board to make a selection, but if it doesn’t, the Bills could do far worse with a late pick.
. DT. Ole Miss. Robert Nkemdiche. 19. player
