If the Broncos can’t re-sign Brock Osweiler, they are rumored to have interest in Colin Kaepernick

The Denver Broncos must look for a new quarterback after Peyton Manning officially retired on Monday. They are expected to try hard to re-sign Peyton’s backup Brock Osweiler, who looked impressive in relief of Manning last season while Manning was injured. Should Osweiler sign elsewhere, they have a plan B in mind: Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick could be intriguing to the Broncos because their offense could be better suited with a mobile quarterback. It also likely wouldn’t cost that much to get Kaepernick, nor would it cost that much to get rid of him since most of his contract is not guaranteed. Colin Kaepernick could thrive in Denver’s offense, which features zone read plays.

Kaepernick threw for 1,615 passing yards while completing 59 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and five interceptions last year in nine games (eight starts). He likely needs a new start to his career because the 49ers seem to be ready to move in a different direction. The offense is no longer tailor made to fit the strengths of the mobile Kaepernick.

If Denver is willing to tailor their offense to bring out Kaepernick’s arm strength, speed, and agility, he could fit in well with the Broncos and be a relatively cheap option compared to other quarterbacks.
