Marvin Jones has reportedly agreed to sign with the Detroit Lions once free agency begins

The Detroit Lions found themselves with an unexpected giant hole on their offense after wide receiver Calvin Johnson announced his retirement. With no suitable replacements on the team, the Lions had to be aggressive and grab one of the top free agent wide receivers. Detroit has reportedly agreed to terms with Marvin Jones on a deal that could pay him around $8 million a season. The length of the deal has not been released yet.

The 25-year-old Jones will be forced to fill some very big shoes as Calvin Johnson’s replacement. Jones has not proven himself to be anything close to Johnson so far in his career with no 1,000 yard receiving seasons. In 43 games, he has 16 touchdowns, 134 receptions, and 1,729 receiving yards. The Bengals receiver will get the chance to be the featured receiver in an offense that also includes Golden Tate.

While the price might be a bit high, Jones should be a good fit in the Lions offense. Marvin Jones is a speedy, athletic receiver who has reliable hands. He should help stretch defenses and while he might not replace Johnson, he should be a great fit with the Lions and their vertical passing game.
