5 reasons why Colin Kaepernick is bad for the Broncos
By Ian O'Brien
4. The Broncos should not sacrifice their future
It has been reported by cleveland.com that the 49ers will ask the Broncos for a second-round pick in return for Kaepernick if they go through with this trade. Although it has been pointed out that the Broncos are not willing to offer more than a third-round pick, giving up a high draft pick is still a dangerous move for the defending Super Bowl champions. The Broncos will want to have all the draft picks they can use, especially since they only have seven for their 2016 class.
Although the Broncos have built a strong defense, they have lost key components such as defensive end Malik Jackson and inside linebacker Danny Trevathan to free agency. Even with outside linebacker Von Miller and cornerbacks Chris Harris Jr. and Aqib Talib sticking around, the Broncos will need to make sure that they can keep their defense strong while using their resources to restock their offense.
A high draft pick may be the pick they use to select their next great quarterback. While selecting Carson Wentz or Jared Goff may be out of the question, there are still plenty of other talents such as Paxton Lynch, Dak Prescott and Connor Cook that offer plenty of upside.
