NFL Rumors: Ryan Fitzpatrick probably won’t sign with Broncos
By Josh Hill
The Denver Broncos reached out to Ryan Fitzpatrick, but probably won’t sign him.
Ryan Fitzpatrick tried to play the quarterback market but failed to do anything more than make the Jets realize they’ll probably have to end up signing him regardless of if they want to or not.
According to Brian Costello of The New York Post, the Denver Broncos have indeed reached out to Fitzpatrick — which is hilarious for people who hate the Broncos — but a deal is unlikely. In fact, the Broncos lack of willingness to meet his salary demands will probably much him back to New York.
There was, and for the most part still is, a quarterback market in free agency. The Broncos need a quarterback to compete with Mark Sanchez, the Browns need a quarterback and the Jets need someone. This is why Fitzpatrick probably tested the market, but he hasn’t been hearing what he wanted to as far as interest in contract specifics.
New York has been linked to Robert Griffin III, but it’s believed that such interest is nothing more than leverage in contract talks with Fitzpatrick. There’s no real reason for the Jets and Fitzpatrick to divorce, as he’s a perfect placeholder quarterback for a team he lost took to the postseason last year.
The Broncos have been linked to Fitzpatrick, but it’s probably more of a case of John Elway doing due diligence on the quarterback market as opposed to anything else.
