For those of you that do the bracket games, I will unveil all of my picks by Wednesday night. For those of you that play the round by round games, I will also put my picks out there after every round as well. There will be something for everyone!
In the preview, I will give you a favorite, and dark horse team, which would be a four seed or higher than could win the region. A team to watch for, overseeded and underseeded teams, and of course, a double digit seed most likely to win one or more games.
Just in case you missed any:
Midwest Region
East Region
South region
Now, on to the West regional.
Favorite: Oregon. The Ducks are as good as advertised. At least the committee thinks so. Well, so does Utah. The Ducks made a statement in the Pac 12 Championship game. That likely landed them here, and they have a pretty easy road.
Watch out for: Oklahoma. The Sooners had a bad habit of not closing out games in conference play, but this is a really good team. They shoot well, they play solid defense, and they have a presence in the middle. And they have Buddy Hield, whose range is somewhere in the building. As you could see by the shot that was waved off against West Virginia in the Big 12 semifinal.
Dark Horse: Baylor. The Bears got kicked around some in the Big 12, but they beat Iowa State and Texas twice each. They are big and physical, and can get up and down the court. Another thing that favors the Bears? Duke lacks size. Just saying….
Begging To Be Upset: Duke. They have a lot of talent, but they don’t play all that well as a team, and they don’t have size on the interior. Wilmington does. So does Baylor. This could be another early out for Duke.
Overseeded: Oregon. I understand that Oregon was the best team west of the Mississippi. The committee seeded geographically, which is fine, but I wouldn’t consider the Ducks one of the four best teams in the country.
Underseeded: St. Joseph’s. The A-10 got little respect as far as seeding goes. All of the teams that made it are between a 7 and a 10 seed. Don’t be surprised if at least one of these teams shocks the tournament the first weekend and knocks out a giant.
Cinderella: Northern Iowa. The Panthers beat North Carolina earlier this year, so you know in any given game they can pull an upset. They don’t particularly match up well with Texas, who is huge and playing well right now, but if UNI hits from the outside, they have a shot.
