Formula 1 rookie Haryanto runs into Grosjean (Video)

Formula 1 rookie driver Rio Haryanto hasn’t even started a race yet and he’s already getting noticed…but not in a good way.

Rio Haryanto is about to start his first Formula 1 race for Manor Racing, formerly the Manor-Marussia team, in Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Romain Grosjean has been a Formula 1 driver for years, and is the #1 driver for the brand new U.S.-based Haas Racing Team. Haas represents the first U.S. entry into a F1 race in thirty years.

Formula 1 racing is a very fast sport. Cars get together, spin, crash and bump wheels. Even in practice, accidents happen. But in the pits just pulling out of your garage?

As the drivers and teams were getting ready in the pits for the final practice session before Sunday’s race Haryanto lit up his engine, and started out of his pit lane garage spot.

Unfortunately, he didn’t see that Grosjean had also been dropped from the jacks and had pulled out of the garage next door, and onto the pit’s fast lane.

Haryanto pulled straight out and into the left side of Grosjean’s car. Fortunately the accident happened at very low speeds, little damage was done to either car, and both are expected to be on the starting grid.

Haryanto was penalized three spots on the starting grid for Sunday’s race, and we can probably count on him, and his team, looking both ways before pulling out into traffic next time.
