The New Day will induct the legendary creators of the Freebird Rule into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The WWE Hall of Fame is home to some legendary names. Bet Hart, the Four Horsemen and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin all revolutionized the business in one way or another. One group who had a significant impact in wrestling was the Fabulous Freebirds. The 2016 WWE Hall of Fame inductees were once one of the hottest acts in the business. Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts and Jimmy Garvin paved the way for tag teams in wrestling, inventing the Freebird Rule. The rule helped teams with multiple members get over, and it continues to do so.

It seems fitting, then, that one of the most successful “Freebird Rule” users today will induct the Fabulous Freebirds into the WWE Hall of Fame. WWE recently announced that The New Day will induct the legends on April 1st.

The New Day have been the hottest thing in WWE right now. Their fresh humor and great in-ring chemistry make them unique. It looks like they are somewhat honoring the Freebirds at WrestleMania with all of them defending the Tag Team titles against the League of Nations. In an interview with WWE.com, the members of The New Day discussed the Freebirds and what the team means to them. Xavier Woods stated:

"The Freebird Rule has helped The New Day in many ways. It allows us to create a different kind of strategy against our opponents that no other team has. You don’t know if you’re going up against Kofi and Big E, Kofi and myself, or Big E and myself.  We have different strategies for different opponents. You never know what you’re going to get, like a box of Booty-Os."

While there have been a few teams who have utilized the Freebird Rule to their advantage (ahem, Spirit Squad), no one recently has successfully capitalized on it like the New Day has. Once lacking direction, the New Day are true playmakers in WWE. It will be fun to see the remaining Freebird members and the New Day interact with one another. We might see a lot of dancing from these groups, which would be quite a sight.

Just like they do for the New Day, come April 1st, the crowd will be chanting, “Free … Birds rock!” For the Freebirds, it’s just another day in Badstreet U.S.A.
