Ezekiel Elliott is scheduled to visit with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday ahead of the NFL Draft

With the 2016 NFL Draft rapidly approaching now this spring, it’s time for the teams to start to lock in on some of the collegiate players they really want. It’s especially crunch time for those teams that sit at the top of the order, and one of those teams is none other than the Dallas Cowboys.

And apparently, they’re really setting their sights in on one of the top running back prospects in the NFL Draft, Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott.

According to Ian Rapoport, on Sunday Elliott will be headed to Arlington to meet with the Cowboys brass not long after they recently watched him work out in Columbus.

For quite some time now, it’s been rumored that the Cowboys might have interest in selecting Elliott with their No. 4 overall pick.

They got an outstanding effort from DeMarco Murray in 2014, but he was lost in free agency to the Philadelphia Eagles and was recently traded to the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys struggled with a lot last season, and one of the areas they had issues with was out of the backfield, not being able to find any consistency.

Really, what it all comes down to is whether or not they feel comfortable with taking a running back that high in the order. Despite Todd Gurley really bucking a trend last year by being selected in the top-10, teams still question whether or not it’s worth it to take a chance on a position that carries such a short shelf life.

However, watching the way that Elliott carried the Ohio State offense at times the past few seasons, it might be worth it to get Romo some help back there in the form of the former Buckeye.
