Italian manager Antonio Conte has been hired by Chelsea to become their new manager starting this Summer.

This is an announcement the soccer world has been waiting for. Ever since Antonio Conte publicly stated that he would vacate his post as the Italian national team’s manager, it seemed inevitable that he would become the new Chelsea manager. It is now official, as the London football club released a statement on Monday illustrating the appointment.

This season has been tough on Chelsea fans. Jose Mourinho, the Special One, had failed and was sacked in December, Guus Hiddink came in and steadied the ship, but was unable to secure any silverware after cup losses to Everton and Paris Saint-Germain ended such hopes. Hiddink was always in charge as a temporary role, he had, of course, done such a job before with Chelsea, winning the FA Cup, and it seemed likely that Roman Abramovich would look abroad for a big European name to steer Chelsea back to the top. Chelsea’s owner was indeed able to lure a big name manager.

Antonio Conte is a well polished, well respected and intelligent manager. He had great success bringing Juventus back to the summit of Italian football after their match fixing fiasco, and is now in the process of assembling a dangerous Italian squad heading towards Euro 2016. He will take over at Chelsea after his country’s Euro 2016 campaign, undergoing a three year contract with the club. He will likely be given substantial funds in the transfer market to revamp an aging squad and bring in his own players. After an utterly forgetful season for Chelsea, it is set to be a memorable Summer.
