Here’s all the information you need to watch the MLB Opening Day matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.
After a drama-filled offseason that involved them losing Zack Greinke in free agency to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers have to be happy to start playing meaningful baseball. They start their defense of their NL West division title against a familiar foe in the San Diego Padres. San Diego, unlike the Dodgers, aren’t likely going to contend in 2016.
Clayton Kershaw will take the mound as the Opening Day starting pitcher for the Dodgers. Kershaw finished last season as an NL Cy Young finalist, eventually finishing third behind Greinke and the winner Jake Arrieta. He led the league with 301 strikeouts in a league high 232.2 innings pitched. His four year run of leading the league in ERA might have ended, but his 2.13 ERA was still the third lowest in the league.Â
Countering Kershaw will be Tyson Ross, the San Diego Padres Opening Day starting pitcher. Ross had an impressive season in 2015 despite his 10-12 record. He had a 3.26 ERA in 33 starts. Ross’s control is always a concern, as he led the league in walks (84) and wild pitches (14). However, he can be at times untouchable with 212 strikeouts in 196 innings.
