Los Angeles Dodgers season opener blacked out: Twitter reacts

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the field on Monday to open their 2016 MLB season, yet many of their fans couldn’t watch the game and acted accordingly.

It was a weird day for Major League Baseball. A handful of games were postponed due to weather. The Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the teams that did play on Monday, but their local fans wouldn’t have known it as the game was blacked out on ESPN in the media market. Those with Time Warner Cable were able to tune in, but any other cable subscriber were left in the dark.

ESPN can only simulcast so many games a year in a given market. It’s not their fault the Dodgers are greedy and can’t strike a deal with DISH and as a result leave a majority of fans in the start. MLB does a lot of great things, but their television blackout rules are obsolete and need some serious looking at.

Dodgers fans were obviously and understandably angry when they turned on their television and tried to watch their beloved team and saw the game was unavailable. It’s also something many fans predicted would happen given the history of this issue.
