Philadephia 76ers GM Sam Hinkie gives up on ‘The Process’
By Josh Hill
Sam Hinkie has stepped down as the Philadelphia 76ers general manager.
For years, the Philadelphia 76ers have been asking their fans to ‘Trust The Process’ — meaning they shouldn’t be worried that general manger Sam Hinkie appeared to have no idea what he was doing.
As it turns out, the process was probably bullsh–t, as the man behind the curtain has stepped out and down from his position.
According to ESPN, Hinkie has stepped down as general manager of the 76ers.
This isn’t really that big of a surprise, as the pieces were put in place for Hinkie to lose his job months ago. That’s when Jerry Colangelo was brought on as an advisor to the front office. Basically, everyone saw this as writing on the wall that Hinkie’s days of running his process into the ground were numbered — and the turned out to be true.
Usually when someone loses a job you try and find the bright spots in their tenure but there were hardly any in Hinkie’s time with the Sixers. If this team ever crawls out from the gutter of the NBA, we won’t be looking back fondly on a misunderstood genius who drafted Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.
Instead we’ll probably remember that time Hinkie tanked for lottery picks he’d then trade a year later to get more lottery picks he could then trade later for second round picks. This was the real process in Philly, and it has finally come to an end.
