Detroit go for the second Spartan in a row with the 6-6 Valentine. The senior delivered one of the most productive all-around seasons in college basketball history this year, averaging a near triple-double (23.3 points, 9.4 assists and 9.1 rebounds) per 40 minutes. Valentine isn’t an explosive athlete, but he has a great basketball IQ and his 6-10 wingspan should help make up for his lack of explosiveness defensively.

Valentine seems like an excellent fit within the Pistons’ system, which is trending toward the type of four-out, one-in model that Stan Van Gundy used in Orlando. His rebounding from the wing will be a welcome addition given that the team will usually have a smaller than average front line. Valentine is an excellent catch-and-shoot three-point shooter; he made more than 40 percent of his 650 attempts over four years in East Lansing. Additionally, he is a great secondary ball-handling option in the high pick-and-roll. Valentine played a decent number of minutes at point guard for head coach Tom Izzo and was excellent at finding shooters (45.8 assist rate) and scoring on his own. While Valentine may not have the highest upside, he has an excellent feel for the game and already knows how to play it so well.
