Peyton Manning asks John Madden for advice on possible TV job

Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is pondering a TV analyst job and sought the advice from legendary broadcaster John Madden about his options.

Now that Peyton Manning is retired from playing in the NFL, he has plenty of time to ponder what the next step is going to be for his future. With options that range from team ownership to playing golf at courses all across the country, Manning is still weighing all the options for what he is going to do now that he is, at the moment, unemployed.

One of the most talked about options (dating back to when Manning was still playing last year for the Denver Broncos) is a career in television as an NFL analyst. Reportedly, CBS has offered him a position as their lead game analyst alongside Jim Nantz (with Nantz’ current partner, Phil Simms, getting moved somewhere else).

Manning decided to ask someone with plenty of experience about moving from the field to the booth for his advice. John Madden, who spent nearly three decades in the booth for all four broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC), gave Manning some surprising advice about following in his footsteps, according to USA Today’s The Big Lead:

Madden’s advice for Manning: “Go the Elway path or get a piece of ownership.”

The “Elway Path” refers to former Broncos quarterback John Elway, who got involved in private business and owned part of an Arena Football team before moving into the front office for Denver, where he has spent the last five seasons and help build the Super Bowl champions.

Manning has been linked to a possible ownership stake in the Tennessee Titans, which would return him to the state where he spent four years playing college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Needless to say, it doesn’t look like Manning will be out of a job for much longer…once he decides what he actually wants to do.
