In 2007, general manager Rod Graves had a chance to bring Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals with the fifth pick in the 2007 draft. Instead, the Cardinals decided to draft for need and took Levi Brown out of Penn State. The Cardinals really needed a tackle, but the Cleveland Browns had already taken Joe Thomas.

So instead of drafting a future Hall of Fame running back in Peterson and adding him to Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Kurt Warner, the Cardinals decided to reach and take a tackle, who was better than anyone else in the league at letting opposing pass rushers have a free run at the Cardinals quarterback.

Thinking about it, it’s surprising that Warner was able to last as long as he did with Brown at tackle. Alas, Warner would get knocked around too much and would have to call it quits. As for Brown, if he wasn’t committing a false start or letting the other team kill his quarterback, he usually had someone in a headlock and was getting called for a holding.

To top it off, when the Cardinals had a chance to go down the field in Super Bowl XLIII against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brown let LaMarr Woodley past him for a forced fumble on Warner. The Cardinals would eventually trade him away just to get rid of him and they improved by him just being gone.
