5 greatest Liverpool comebacks
4. Liverpool vs. Olympiakos, Champions League
This match was the final group stage match for Liverpool at Anfield. They had to win the match by two goals to slip through to the knockout stages of the Champions League on goal differential. Like they had against Arsenal, Liverpool came out and played lackadaisical in the first half.
Olympiacos made them pay. They went ahead in the first half 1-0, causing Liverpool to need three goals to advance. All hopes were dwindling in the stadium. Early in the second half, though, Florent Sinama-Pongolle scored to put Liverpool level with Olympiacos, but that wouldn’t get them anywhere. They needed two more to stay alive.
Time passed by quickly for Liverpool fans as they watched their knockout stage hopes slip away. Neil Mellor came on in the 78th minute. Two minutes later, 2-1 Liverpool. One goal in ten minutes is all they needed to advance.
The Steven Gerrard scored one of the most iconic goals in Liverpool history.
The Reds had made one of the most improbable comebacks in their history, but only fourth on the list.
