4. This is not a good quarterback class

When you trade as much as the Rams did, you’re basically narrowing their entire draft down to one player. If the quarterback they take hits, Los Angeles will look like geniuses — but if he misses they look like fools. While trading up to No. 1 is beyond exiting for fans, it just feels like this year’s quarterback class isn’t all that impressive or worthy of mortgaging your future over.

Los Angeles might be getting who they think is the best quarterback in the draft, but most see about seven or eight guys as better overall prospects this year. Sometimes you end up being the guy who took EJ Manuel 16th overall because there is nothing better.

They could have potentially stayed at 15 where a decent quarterback prospect might have fallen to them, or they have made a selection at another position. Nobody can predict the future, but the Rams might have been better off just letting the chips fall where they may by staying where they were picking. Who’s to say that a perfect-fit prospect wouldn’t have been available there for the taking?

If a wide receiver like Laquon Treadwell is sitting there at 15, and you are looking at a stud blocker who could lead the way for Gurley, and make whoever the quarterback is look better you have to wonder if it was worth the major investment that they made.
