Would Walton be the next head coach to lead his team he formerly played for? If the Lakers do the right thing and part ways with Byron Scott, Walton would have to be the Lakers’ top target to replace him. The bigger question is if Walton is ready for the madness that exists with era or the Lakers?

Yes, Walton would inherit four dynamic young players in point guard D’Angelo Russell, shooting guard Jordan Clarkson, power forward Julius Randle, and center Larry Nance, Jr., but the Lakers have never been worse than they were in the Year of Kobe in 2015-16.

The Lakers’ front office is a mess outside of general manager Mitch Kupchak since the passing of the late owner Jerry Buss a few years ago. They can’t seem to get the right coach for the roster they have assembled since Jackson stopped coaching Lakers games several years back.

Truth be told is that Walton would probably want to coach his former team in the not-so distant future, but the way that the front office is poorly run today, that would act as a major deterrent for him leaving the City by the Bay for the City of Angels.

Surely, Walton could be enticed if the Lakers do get a top three pick in the 2016 NBA Draft to add to their core four, but now may not be the best time for him to become the next Lakers’ coach. However, it could be a dream job for him and could be too hard to pass up for Walton given emotional attachment to the Lakers.
