Scott Brooks spent the year out of the NBA after a solid stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Here are five reasons the Washington Wizards should hire him.

While the Oklahoma City Thunder probably did need a new voice leading their contending Western Conference team in 2015-16, this year has felt a bit odd without having Scott Brooks on an NBA sideline. The former 10-year NBA point guard spent the previous seven seasons as the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, leading the organization to the 2012 NBA Finals where they lost to LeBron James’ Miami Heat in five games.

For lack of a better word, Brooks is what we call an NBA lifer. He won an NBA Championship on Hakeem Olajuwon’s Houston Rockets in 1994 and helped turn a recently relocated NBA franchise in Oklahoma City into a winner, along with great draft work by general manager Sam Presti.

As the head coach of the Thunder from 2008 to 2015, Brooks went 338-207 in 545 regular season games. Brooks won .620 percent of his games and a career 65.5 games over teams that finished above .500. In the five seasons that Oklahoma City qualified for the Western Conference Playoffs during the Brooks era, the Thunder went 39-34 in 73 career NBA Playoff games.

Brooks will almost certainly get another head coaching opportunity after spending a year out of the league. His results with the Thunder speak for themselves. Here are five reasons that it makes a ton of sense for him to be the next head coach of the Eastern Conference’s Washington Wizards.
