The Nashville Predators once again shock the Ducks to go up 2-0 in a first round series of the NHL playoffs that few saw turning out this way.

151. 2. 105. Final. 3

For the second game in a row, the Nashville Predators have shocked the Anaheim Ducks. The Predators put together another great 60 minute performance to hold on for another 3-2 victory as they now head home to Nashville with all of the momentum.

The Ducks carried the play early on as Andrew Cogliano scored on a breakaway. However with under a minute to go in the first period Mattias Eckholm scored on a beautiful set up from Colin Wilson. Nashville would add two more goals to take a 3-1 lead that lasted until late in the third period.

Nate Thompson had a great game using his physicality to stay effective and it was a fluke shot he threw at the net late in the third that got passed Pekka Rinne to make it a one goal game. The Ducks pulled the goaltender late but a mistake by Cam Fowler at the offensive blue-line disallowed the Ducks from really getting a good look at the net in the dying seconds of the game.

Nashville deserved the victory, they played a Ducks brand of hockey in Anaheim and were the better team. Nashville dictated the physical play for much of the game and it was clear they got inside the Ducks’ heads. The Predators now hold a 2-0 series lead and will head home for game three where they will look to take one more step towards an opening round sweep.

Three Stars

1st Star – Roma Josi

Josi really just does a whole lot of everything for Nashville. He’s taken the reigns from Shea Weber as the Predators top blue-liner and the world continues to get a look at the world class defensmen he really is. He made plays at both ends of the ice and his presence is similar to the effects of Duncan Keith and Drew Doughty. He had an outstanding game.

2nd Star – Colin Wilson

Colin Wilson supplied the depth scoring with a big goal in game one and he made a great play along the board late in the first period to set up Eckholm’s goal. That was a big turning point as the Ducks were under a minute away from heading to the locker room with a 1-0 lead. Wilson is rebounding big time from a disappointing regular season.

3rd Star – Hampus Lindholm

For the second straight game I felt that Lindholm was the Ducks best player. When he pushed the pace, the Ducks were dangerous. When he was on the ice defending, the Ducks were in position to stop the Nashville attack. Lindholm once again showed why he can be a huge factor for the Ducks and he is going to have to be the defensemen on the ice in games three and four if Anaheim is going to have any shot at coming back in this series.
