3. Logan Verrett-New York Mets

Verrett is expected to take the mound tonight for the Mets in place of Jacob deGrom who is away from the team on family emergency leave tending to his newborn son who is reportedly doing better. Verrett was strong in his first start of the season and gets a favorable matchup against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park tonight.

In his start last Wednesday against the Marlins, Verrett threw six shutout innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six.  He received a no-decision for his troubles, but he had his slider working against the Marlins.  He doesn’t have elite-level stuff like the rest of the Mets’ young rotation, but he was effective in that outing and will get a chance for an encore tonight.

Verrett was a nice piece of the Mets’ bullpen at the end of last season, and he had a few spot starts to rest Matt Harvey and others.  He could serve the same role this season and has shown he can produce in favorable matchups like this one making him a strong streaming option in the 98% of ESPN leagues in which he’s available.
