Kris Letang tries to chop off Viktor Stalberg’s head with stick (Video)
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang could be subject to a penalty from the NHL after swinging his stick like a weapon.
The Pittsburgh Penguins came away with a 3-1 win against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, but they could be losing one of their veteran defensemen.
Kris Letang scored the last goal in the Game 3 win for the surging Penguins but that’s not what will have people talking until Game 4.
Letang took a page out of the cheap shot playbook when he swung his stick as a weapon and slashed the throat of Viktor Stalberg.
Somehow there wasn’t a penalty called on this dirty play from Letang, but that doesn’t mean he is free of discipline.
You can expect the NHL to look at this violent gesture and determine whether a suspension is warranted.
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith was suspended the last five games of the regular season and one postseason game for swinging his stick in a violent fashion and clipping the face of Charlie Coyle.
At first glance, this slashing motion from Letang would appear to be more violent. Both actions were intentional, I don’t think there is any debate about that, but you can bet there will be a debate about the length of a possible suspension.
I think Letang has to sit at least one game and I wouldn’t be surprised if he received a multi-game suspension of 2-3 games. If this was a regular season game the suspension would likely be longer, but because of the importance of the playoff games where each game means more, I can see anything between a 1-3 game suspension.
