The Flyers continued their magical postseason run with a 2-0 victory of the Capitals in Game 5.

Final. 0. 19. 2. 68

The Flyers got a much needed win in Game 5 Friday night as Philadelphia beat the Capitals 1-0 to bring the series back to Philadelphia in Game 6. Washington lost despite significantly out-shooting the Flyers as Philadelphia goaltender Michael Neuvirth stood on his head with a 43 save performance to take the series back to Wells Fargo Center.

Washington will have to answer for their playoff issues as they continue to somehow be unable to finish a series despite dominating the Flyers in virtually every aspect of the game except the scoreboard. The Caps will get two more opportunities to exorcise their playoff demons two more times.

Philadelphia got goals from forward Ryan White and Chris VandeVelde. VandeVelde’s goal was an empty netter.

Three stars

Neuvirth was by a significant margin the best player on the Flyers on Friday. He made 44 saves and allowed zero goals. Neuvirth had to be on top of his game against the Capitals and he did.

White scored what wound up being the game-winning goal for Philadelphia just after a power play expired. He played with a ton of passion tonight just as the Flyers did.

Bellemare scored the empty net goal at the end that won the game for the Flyers.
