The Lakers have reportedly finally fired Byron Scott as their head coach

The Los Angeles Lakers have suffered through two of the worst seasons in the history of the franchise in the past two years with Byron Scott at the helm as the team’s head coach. Especially over the past season as the Lakers were blessed with young talent like D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, and Jordan Clarkson, though, it became abundantly clear that Scott was a major part of the problem. However, he won’t be a problem for them anymore.

According to a report from multiple news outlets, including arguably the most reliable source to confirm it in Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Lakers have finally fired Byron Scott as their head coach:

This is a huge—and the right—move for the Lakers to make right now. The way that Scott handled his team over the past two years has been downright disgraceful. As the head coach, he lacked any real sense of accountability as he always put the onus on his players. In addition to that, he refused to give young players like Russell and Randle opportunities early in the season because they hadn’t earned it, development be damned.

Now that the Lakers are in a post-Kobe Bryant world and will now need to rely on their young players as the core for the future, getting Scott out of town was paramount. He was a symbol of the old-guard that just didn’t get it anymore—and now the Lakers can go find someone to coach this team who will get it.
