Dana White says McGregor is not back on UFC 200

Dana White told TMZ that Conor McGregor’s tweet is false and that he is not back on UFC 200.

Many people woke up to a tweet from Conor McGregor saying that he has been put back on UFC 200 and that his rematch with Nate Diaz is happening again. Even though the UFC didn’t officially announce it yet, he still tagged Dana White and the Fertitta brothers in the tweet. It seemed like this saga would finally be put to rest, right?

As it turns out, that’s not the case. Dana White has come out and said that there’s no deal in place for him to be on UFC 200.

“It’s not true. We haven’t talked to Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that,” White told TMZ.

“All the media keeps asking me that. I feel like the scene in ‘Step Brothers’ when they ask if they can build the bunk beds. I don’t know how many more times I can say the fight is off or how many more press conferences I can have saying the fight is off for people to believe it’s off.”

Given what McGregor has been up to the past few days, people should’ve taken that tweet with a grain of salt, especially since the UFC never confirmed it themselves. It would look bad on the UFC if they went back on their word just days later by putting McGregor on the card. Even though the fans want to see him fight, he hasn’t been complying with the company’s demands, which prompted them to take swift action.

This latest tweet, then, must be seen as a way for McGregor to get what he wants. Just like with his retirement tweet, he is attempting to show the company how much interest the fans and fighters have in him, and that promotion doesn’t matter since a fight with him involved sells itself.

By tagging Dana and the Fertitta brothers, the tweet comes off as an ultimatum rather than an announcement, but surely Dana must feel he has to stick to his guns on this one.
