Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas leaves Game 5 with ankle injury
Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas left Game 5 vs. the Atlanta Hawks with an ankle injury.
You can add injury to insult for Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas who suffered sprained left ankle in the fourth quarter of their Game 5 loss against the Atlanta Hawks.
Thomas landed awkwardly on his ankle and went to the locker room immediately as the team announced he would not return.
It remains to be seen if Thomas will be healthy enough to play in Game 6 with the Celtics fighting to extend their season after falling down 3-2 in the series with Tuesday’s debacle.
It’s been a breakout postseason for Thomas who had seven points on 3-of-12 shooting prior to leaving with the injury. Before Game 5, he was nearly unstoppable with 27 points in Game 1, 16 in Game 2, 42 in Game 3 and 28 in Game 4.
Thomas has really blossomed in Boston and under head coach Brad Stevens, but if the Celtics hope to advance to the second round, they’re going to need their point guard for Game 6 to avoid elimination.
It’s unfortunate news for the Celtics and for NBA fans who have seen the postseason lose some big stars with Steph Curry, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin suffering injuries in the postseason. Curry is out at least two weeks while Paul and Griffin are out for the postseason.
