Jameis Winston lost something this offseason that could turn into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finding a few extra wins in the 2016 NFL season.

Jameis Winston may have been a former Heisman Trophy winner and national champion with the Florida State Seminoles but that doesn’t mean he entered the NFL without questions about his on-field ability.

Prior to the 2015 NFL Draft, Winston was photographed and looking rather fleshy in the midsection, which isn’t ideal if you’re trying to have a long and successful career in the NFL.

Winston who has been a prime target for ribbing on the internet for a variety of reasons was ripped for his spare tire, but the Bucs quarterback didn’t let it hamper his play as a rookie. Winston threw for more than 4,000 yards and tossed 22 touchdowns and he should be even better after dropping nearly 20 pounds already this offseason.

Winston’s No. 1 target, Mike Evans, noticed the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft is getting cut and even dropped his infamous belly.

“He lost a lot of weight. He slimmed out,” Evans said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “I was joking with him the other day. He took his shirt off, and I said ‘Man, what happened to the belly?’ He’s got a six-pack like me. He’s put in a tremendous amount of work and I think it’s going to be a great year for him and this whole team.”

Winston’s been working with trainer Tim Grover and has lost 18 pounds. Winston’s listed playing weight last year was 231 pounds, but it’s safe to assume he played heavier than that last year. If Winston plays around the 225-pound range and replace fat with good muscle, Winston may be able to lead the Buccaneers to a playoff spot.
