Denver Broncos: 5 best draft picks of all-time
3. Von Miller, Linebacker (Round 1, Pick 2, 2011)
Coming out of Texas A&M, no one was in doubt about the talent of linebacker Von Miller. After the Panthers took Cam Newton with the top overall pick in what turned out to be a ridiculously deep 2011 NFL Draft, Denver selected Miller at No. 2. It’s safe to say the decision worked out.
The first thing that makes the pick so great is that the Broncos had the gumption to take Miller ahead of guys like Marcell Dareus, A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson and even J.J. Watt. Though Watt might go down as the best defensive player of all time if he maintains his current pace for the rest of his career, Miller’s hardly a slouch. He won Super Bowl 50 MVP honors for a reason.
There’s no need to reel off Miller’s best attributes as an edge rusher. He’s so damn good in that regard that anyone with a minor knowledge about the Broncos or the NFL could tell you that. However, it’s a testament to Denver’s front office that they were able to weed through all of the talent and pick the player they needed most.
Next: No. 2 Terrell Davis
