MLB Trade Deadline: One trade each team should make
By Jason Evans
Seattle Mariners-Steve Cishek to the Toronto Blue Jays for D.J. Davis
The Mariners are off to a good start but do they have enough to make it last moving forward? This is a questions they have to ask themselves. If the Mariners think they are going to contend then they can’t do this trade, but I’m not sure they have enough to in a competitive American League. Because of that, it could be a time to cash on their closer and get a prospect in return. Closers are meant to be flipped for rebuilding teams, especially ones that are inexpensive like Cishek.
In getting D.J. Davis, the Mariners get themselves a possible center fielder for the future in one the Jays remaining top 10 prospects.
For the Jays, they get Cishek who can help them late in games and take some pressure of Drew Storen and Roberto Osuna. The Jays bullpen is in the middle of the pack and we all have seen in recent years how you have to have a deep bullpen, especially in the playoffs. Gavin Floyd has a history of injury problems and Jesse Chavez might even be need in the rotation at some point, so the Jays can use that extra arm in the bullpen moving forward.
