With the third pick in the 2016 draft, the Chargers select Joey Bosa.

Joey Bosa is an impressive player coming out of Ohio State. While in college, Bosa dominated his competition, and looks to continue to do so at the highest level. With the addition of Bosa to Charger’s defense, this should help the team turn into an annual super bowl contender.

Bosa was so highly regarded in college because not only could he rush the passer well, he also could play excellent run defense. In the NFL today, it is important to have a guy that can rush the passer extremely well. However, if you have a player that can sack the quarterback, and stop the run, then you have a franchise type of player.

It is interesting to note that Bosa was not the first player from his family to be drafted into the NFL. Both his father (John Bosa) and his uncle (Eric Kumerow) played for the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers hope that Bosa’s NFL genes help turn him into an elite professional player.

Expect Bosa to be a day one starter for the Chargers. It is very rare for a team to take a defensive player so highly regarded out of college, and not play them quickly.

Grade: B+
