5. Sean Manaea-Oakland Athletics (0.0%)

Manaea is making his Major League debut tonight as the A’s host the Astros. Although there is always risk in starting a pitcher in their first ever MLB start, I like Manaea’s matchup and the form he has showcased all year at Triple-A Nashville.

Manaea is a 24-year-old southpaw that the A’s got from Kansas City in the Ben Zobrist trade who has quickly risen through the Oakland farm system and will get his first taste of Big League action.  He suffered a leg injury in the Cactus League, but he has looked great since starting the year in Triple-A. He has made three starts and compiled a 1.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He also had 21 strikeouts in his 18 innings which was enough to earn him the call up for tonight’s game.

He’ll be opposed tonight by Mike Fiers of the Astros who has gotten off to a rocky start with a 5.73 ERA and .300 BAA showing how fortunate he has been to end up with a 2-1 record.  Manaea should be able to get a win if he turns in a solid start, so give him a look even though I doubt he’ll go deep into the game.
