Looking at the Day 2 selections in the 2016 NFL Draft for the Detroit Lions

In recent years as the Detroit Lions have been sort of a mixed bag in regards to both roster construction and overall success, the one constant that the team has been able to count on is one of the best wide receivers in the entire NFL with Calvin Johnson. However, with the vaunted Megatron announcing his retirement, the Lions entered this offseason with even more rebuilding left to do and making the 2016 NFL Draft even more important.

Before trying to replace Johnson, though, the Lions elected to use their first round pick on Thursday during Day 1 to take the enormous Ohio State offensive tackle Taylor Decker to put on the line and try to protect Matthew Stafford at quarterback. And though they still have a big hole to fill on the outside in regards to their offense, the Lions would be best served to start focusing of the defense going into Day 2 and beyond.

For Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Lions will have two picks to work with. Their first pick of Day 2 will come almost right in the middle of Round 2 as they have the No. 46 overall pick. Detroit will then follow that up late in the third round with the No. 95 overall selection. With those picks in addition to Decker, the Lions should be able to start picking up the pieces to a degree.
