The Denver Broncos went out and believe they drafted a franchise quarterback in Paxton Lynch.

After watching Peyton manning ride of into the proverbial sunset and Brock Osweiler leave for the Houston Texans in free agency, general manager John Elway felt he had to find a franchise quarterback. Whether he did or not remains a question, but Elway went for broke by trading up for and landing Paxton Lynch, an intriguing quarterback out of Memphis.

Here is the list of picks Denver made in the 2016 NFL Draft:

  • Round 1 (26) – Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis
  • Round 2 (63) – Adam Gotsis, DE, Georgia Tech
  • Round 3 (98) – Justin Simmons, FS, Boston College
  • Round 4 (136) – Devontae Booker, RB, Clemson
  • Round 5 (144) – Connor McGovern, OG, Missouri
  • Round 6 (176) – Randy Janovich, FB, Nebraska
  • Round 6 (219) – Will Parks, S, Arizona
  • Round 7 (228) – Riley Dixon, P, Syracuse

Elway should be very happy with this haul. Gotsis can come in and immediately provide some competition on a defensive line that lost Malik Jackson this offseason. Meanwhile, Simmons could start alongside T.J. Ware in the secondary.

Offensively, Booker provides a nice compliment to C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman, giving a nice dynamic of speed. McGovern will absolutely have a chance to start on one of the most mediocre offensive lines in football, perhaps taking over for the departed Evan Mathis.

The Super Bowl champs have to feel good about getting multiple players who might be able to step in and contribute in 2016.
