The Green Bay Packers used their seven 2016 NFL Draft picks to bolster their perennial contending football team. Here is what Green Bay did in the draft.

The Green Bay Packers have one outstanding football culture up their in Wisconsin. Green Bay is unique in that the Packers rarely engage in NFL free agency or orchestrate trades with the other 31 NFL teams. Green Bay builds through the draft like not other. Here is what the Packers did with their seven picks in the 2016 NFL Draft.

  • Round 1 (27): Kenny Clark, DT, UCLA
  • Round 2 (48): Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana
  • Round 3 (88): Kyler Fackrell, LB, Utah State
  • Round 4 (131): Blake Martinez, LB, Stanford
  • Round 4 (137): Dean Lowry, DE, Northwestern
  • Round 5 (163): Trevor Davis, WR, California
  • Round 6 (200): Kyle Murphy, OT, Stanford

The Packers are all about finding ideal culture fits for its truly unique NFL franchise. Outside of California wide receiver Davis, Green Bay opted to go with non-skill position players with their seven 2016 NFL Draft picks.

Many of these draft picks attended top-notch collegiate institutions like Stanford, Northwestern, and Cal. It seems that the Packers wanted to go after high-intellect guys that can help offset some of the problems the team experience last year. Green Bay has a mediocre offensive line and a so-so defense, earning the No. 5 seed in the 2015 NFC Playoffs.

Yes, Green Bay still has one of the best quarterbacks in the game in former MVP Aaron Rodger, but the Packers desperately needed to find many high IQ glue guys with their 2016 NFL Draft picks. From the looks of it and headlined by the young, albeit powerful defensive tackle Clark, it seems that Green Bay set out and accomplished exactly what they had in mind with this NFL Draft.

Expect the Packers to again be a major contender to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LI down in NRG Stadium in Houston this February.
