A look at who the New York Jets selected in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The 2016 NFL Draft has wrapped up with seven rounds of players being selected having come and gone. They are seen as the future of the NFL and could provide an impact.

The New York Jets had an interesting draft as they filled multiple needs on defense and event selected a quarterback. Some of these picks should have an immediate presence next fall.

Here is a look at who the Jets selected in the draft.

  • Round 1 (20) – Darron Lee, OLB, Ohio State
  • Round 2 (51) – Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State
  • Round 3 (83) – Jordan Jenkins, OLB, Georgia
  • Round 4 (118) – Juston Burris, CB, North Carolina State
  • Round 5 (158) – Brandon Shell, OT, South Carolina
  • Round 7 (235) – Lac Edwards, P, Sam Houston State
  • Round 7 (241) – Charone Peake, WR, Clemson

The Jets addressed the linebacker position which was needed coming into the draft. They didn’t have much speed at the position so adding Lee and Jenkins should make for good additions for getting to the quarterback.

NYJ actually drafted a signal caller too. They used their second-round pick on Hackenberg from Penn State. He is seen as a project given his good arm strength but notable accuracy issues. Many expected him to blossom for the Nittany Lions but it never happened. Now he hopefully gets a chance to develop if the Jets can get a viable quarterback to play ahead of him. Their 2015 start Ryan Fitzpatrick, is still out there. He’s in a standoff with the team over a contract offer that apparently has him preferring to retire than take it.

Burris is another need pick for the Jets as well. They are getting older at the defensive back position and questions surround 2013 first-round pick Dee Milliner. If Burris can play well, he can take on a starting spot for the 2016 season.
