When the Buffalo Bills selected Cardale Jones with the last pick in the fourth round, the former Ohio State quarterback had a difficult time believing it was true.

Prior to the 2016 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills showed sincere interest in Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman and quarterbacks coach David Lee paid a visit to the 6’5″ 250lbs QB at his pro day and the organization even brought him to the team facility in Orchard Park, Buffalo.

However, the former National Title winning quarterback thought the call he received on Day 3 of the draft from head coach Rex Ryan was a joke.

After the draft, Jones appeared on a local Buffalo radio station explaining, “I initially thought it was a prank call. I was getting calls from some weird numbers all day and I would answer and they would hang up. So I didn’t believe it until really my name went across the TV screen.”

This unusual set of circumstances may explain Jones’ exuberant explosion of emotion upon finally realizing his NFL dream finally came true.

After winning the National Championship as a redshirt sophomore in 2014, many NFL scouts projected Jones as a first round pick. However, with just three total starts to his name, Jones returned to Columbus in hopes of improving his overall game, only to lose his starting job midway through the season and a see his draft stock take a nosedive.

Cardale Jones is definitely a project for the Bills and will most likely sit behind incumbent starter Tyrod Taylor for a couple of seasons, but the coaches love his raw potential.
