David Ortiz had a great start to the game for the Boston Red Sox but he wasn’t around at the end in their game against the New York Yankees.

The final season for Boston Red Sox designated hitter and likely Hall of Famer David Ortiz has been a phenomenal one for the slugger who is retiring at the end of the year.

Boston is a first-place ball club and Ortiz is still knocking the ball out of the park with similar regularity he experienced since coming to Boston after beginning his career with the Minnesota Twins.

Big Papi hit a home run against the New York Yankees as the rivalry games between the two are winding down for him, but he didn’t get the full experience after getting tossed in the ninth inning.

Ortiz took what was a questionable strike call, at best, on a 3-1 count and was so miffed his manager Jon Farrell had to come out to save him from getting ejected. It was of little help as Papi got tossed after he was frozen on strike three.

I don’t blame Papi for getting ticked on the 3-1 pitch. The pitch was caught low and away and while it’s not where the catcher catches it, but rather where the ball crosses the plate, it’s a questionable strike call.

Strike three was less questionable but he should have been on first and the game should have been tied by virtue of the bases being loaded.

Nevertheless, Ortiz was tossed, threw a bit of a tantrum afterward, and the Yankees beat the Bo Sox.

He’ll be back for sweet revenge on Saturday.
