3. Houston Astros

Lincecum can help a number of teams. One of those teams is the potentially desperate Houston Astros. After their rotation led their team to a wild card berth in 2015, their rotation has let them down big time in 2016. How bad has it been? Tim Lincecum is probably a great upgrade at this point. With Mike Fiers, Dallas Keuchel, Doug Fister, and Collin McHugh struggling mightily so far, Lincecum could replace either of the four or at least perhaps grab their attention.

The Astros would also benefit from having Lincecum in their bullpen. He’s still a very viable spot start option and a solid long reliever. If the Astros can solve his struggles with consistency and control since he won his two Cy Youngs, he’d be a stellar middle reliever. Houston could use more pitching depth and there are not many better arms available out there than Lincecum. There’s certainly no one who has no-hit potential like Lincecum does.

Would Lincecum really help the Astros at this point? If Lincecum pitches like he did last season, he sure would. His 4.13 ERA in 2015 would be the second best of the Astros rotation, trailing only Scott Feldman. Tim Lincecum is a perfect low-risk high reward guy for the Astros to sign as they try to save their season.
