MLB Rumors: Five teams that should sign Tim Lincecum
1. Los Angeles Angels
As much as the Dodgers could use long-time adversary Tim Lincecum to help their rotation, there’s another team nearby that needs him even more: the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels rotation desperately needs more arms, especially after ace Garrett Richards is done for the year due to Tommy John surgery. With Richards out, the Angels rotation is led by Hector Santiago and Nick Tropeano. That simply won’t cut it if the Angels want to make the playoffs. Lincecum could help their rotation.
Jered Weaver and Matt Shoemaker are both struggling mightily. Lincecum might not have Cy Young stuff anymore, but he can still give you five to six solid innings and save the bullpen. Right now, that’s what the Angels need in their rotation. Lincecum is a fan of California and has played in California for his entire career. Anaheim isn’t that far from San Francisco.
Tim Lincecum is at best an average middle of the rotation starting pitcher. However, with all of the Angels’ injuries, they can’t afford to be picky. They need all the healthy arms that they can get. Lincecum has proven that he’s healthy and he’s likely better than any waiver candidate that the Angels could pick up.
