Kurt Rambis is expected to be named the head coach of the Knicks for this upcoming season.

In typical New York Knicks fashion, the team is expected to remove the interim tag from head coach Kurt Rambis’ title and give him the job in an official capacity for the 2016-17 season.

Rambis took over midseason when the Knicks fired Derek Fisher, but fans were hoping he’d be nothing more than a placeholder for a better coach to finally come along.

That won’t happen, at least not until the 2016-17 season begins.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, the Knicks are expected to named head coach for this upcoming season.

It’s unclear how much of a leash Rambis will be given, as Phil Jackson isn’t just out of his mind on this one but also notoriously stingy with commitment. He gave Derek Fisher a big contract but bailed after a year, and the same will probably go for Rambis.

The only guy who looks bad here is Jackson, who’s so zen about running the Knicks into the ground that it’s mind numbing. Sometimes, when people go against the grain to get things done, they tow the line between being a genius or a fool. There’s no genius to what Jackson is doing, as he’s done just about everything he can to alienate Knicks fans and the admitatbly prickly New York press with his antics.

He outwardly refused to interview Tom Thibodeau for head coach, despite the fact we all know Thibs would have crawled over glass to get that job. He also hasn’t reached out to Frank Vogel, a man perfectly equipped to try and run the Knicks and actually have success. All of these failures have occurred, apparently, because Jackson is on vacation in Iowa or something.

The Knicks are a dumpster fire, they should switch places with the Liberty and we — and Phil Jackson — can just finally be done with them.
