NBA Rumors: New York Knicks serious about hiring David Blatt?

Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt thinks he’s a legitimate candidate for the New York Knicks job.

The Knicks coaching search is going to be one of the most interesting storylines to see play out over the next few days and weeks.

Phil Jackson is on vacation so the coaching search is in a holding pattern but the coach he interviewed in April thinks he’s got just as good a shot as any other candidate to take the job.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt left the April interview with Jackson thinking he is a “legitimate candidate to get the job, according to the New York Times‘ Harvey Araton.

According to the report from Araton, Blatt pitched Jackson on being open to implementing the triangle offense he is hell-bent on running with his team and cited his experience at Princeton where he played in a deliberate five-man offense.

He also writes about Blatt taking the Cavaliers job when they were the worst team in the league and was going to coach a young and undisciplined team. But then LeBron James decided he wanted to play in Cleveland again and Blatt’s coaching was basically neutered by the pride of Akron.

The Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and the Memphis Grizzlies, who fired Dave Joerger on Saturday morning are options for Blatt should Jackson and the Knicks go in another direction.

Interim coach Kurt Rambis seems to be the favorite of Jackson because of their familiarity with one another and because of his running the triangle offense.
