Former Notre Dame and current UAB running back Greg Bryant is in critical condition after he was shot overnight.

UAB running back Greg Bryant is in critical condition after he was shot around while driving southbound on I-95, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Bryant, 21, was in the driver’s seat and trauma transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center. His passenger Maurice Grover, 25, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s. They were found in the car around 4:45 a.m.

According to the Post, detectives are still searching for witnesses to the shooting and don’t have any information on a suspect at this time.

Bryant starred at American Heritage high school where he was a highly touted recruit who committed to Notre Dame. Bryant left Notre Dame prior to the 2016 season and transferred to UAB where he figured to play a big role in the team’s renaissance in 2017.

Bryant’s coach at UAB, Bill Clark released a statement saying, “The UAB Football Family’s prayers are with Greg Bryant and his family this morning. he was injured in a shooting last night in Miami and is receiving medical care, surrounded by his family. We are working to get more information and to support Greg and his family in this difficult time.”
