Dwyane Wade sparked a social media backlash after Game 3 of the Miami Heat’s second round series with the Toronto Raptors when a video surfaced of Wade shooting during “O Canada.”

After the Miami Heat’s game three loss to the Toronto Raptors, a video surfaced of Dwyane Wade continuing to shoot the basketball during the Canadian national anthem, sparking a major social media backlash.

In response, Wade promised to change his pre-game routine as to avoid the same incident happening again. Wade’s normally shoots until it is time to lineup for the anthem, but he doesn’t join the line until he makes a final shot. On Saturday, Wade just kept missing, and because of the additional Canadian anthem, he misjudged how much time he had to wrap up his pre-game routine.

Wade insisted that he meant no disrespect to Canada, and was just sticking to his regular routine.

"“I’m not a disrespectful person,” Wade said Sunday. “So if anybody thinks I’m being disrespectful to a country, then they don’t know who Dwyane Wade is.” Via TSN"

Canadians are not buying Wade’s excuses and have taken to Twitter to express their outrage at the situation.

Despite breaking a clear NBA rule by not lining up right away for the Canadian anthem, Wade is not facing any discipline from the league. But the NBA did speak to the Heat about making sure a similar incident doesn’t happen again.

“We spoke to the team, and the Heat will work with its players to make sure no pregame routines interfere with either anthem going forward,” NBA spokesman Tim Frank said in a statement sent to the Associated Press on Sunday.

Wade will debut his new warm up routine Monday night as the Heat look to even the series with the Raptors in Miami.
