Hassan Whiteside injury update: Out for Game 4
By David Rouben
While the Miami Heat haven’t provided any updates on Hassan Whiteside’s long-term condition, he will be out for Game 4 against the Raptors.
Game 3 between the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors took a potentially series-altering shift when their respective bigs, Hassan Whiteside and Jonas Valanciunas, left the game. Raptors fans have already had to deal with news that Valanciunas will be out for the rest of the series.
With regards to Whiteside, nothing has been provided on his long-term condition, but his MCL sprain will at least keep him out for Game 4. The Miami Heat provided the official word on his condition:
Both teams’ depth at center is thin beyond those two, but it was the Raptors who managed to emerge victorious in Game 3. X-rays for Whiteside came back negative which would rule out a long absence, but his MCL sprain is identical to what Steph Curry picked up. Even though Whiteside is diagnosed as day-to-day, Curry’s been out for two weeks so far, so that label seems optimistic more than anything. It’s possible he could join Valanciunas in being ruled out for the series as well.
Whichever way you put it, this is a big loss for the Heat who already trail 2-1 in this series. They definitely want to avoid a 3-1 hole heading back to Toronto, which is why others will be counted on to step up in his absence. Chief among them is Dwyane Wade, who turned back the clock with 38 points in a losing effort.
