The Detroit Lions have acquired linebacker Jon Bostic in a trade with the New England Patriots

It’s not often in the NFL that we see trades that are pretty notable, but we saw one happen on Monday. Per an official release from the team, the Detroit Lions have acquired linebacker Jon Bostic from the New England Patriots.

As for the price for the services of Bostic, while it was not officially named in the release, Filed Yates of ESPN is reporting that the Lions were able to acquire the linebacker for a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2017.

Bostic has been in the NFL for three years. After a stellar career in college with the Florida Gators, he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent his only season with the Patriots last year, where he would appear in 11 games while making a start.

In his career, Bostic has tallied 140 total tackles with two sacks and he’s hauled in one interception.

Really, given the price tag, this move made sense for a team like the Lions, who need all the help they could get on the defensive side of the ball. Should he stay healthy, Bostic should be a nice contributor to this Lions defense beginning this season.
